From Silicon Valley to Munich: Rene Limberger joins Fernride as interim Executive VP Engineering

Munich, October 2021 - Fernride has won over Rene Limberger as its interim Executive Vice President Engineering: At the Munich-based startup for driverless logistics processes, he will henceforth contribute his expertise in software and hardware development as well as extensive experience as a technical manager in the areas of autonomous vehicle technology, system design and computer graphics in order to consistently take the next step towards autonomous logistics with Fernride's driverless approach.

With Limberger, Fernride has a new addition with outstanding reference companies in his vita: The interim VP Engineering, for example, is moving to Munich directly from outrider.ai, a well-known startup in the mobility industry that is working on first autonomous yards on a pilot basis. There, as Director of Vehicle Connectivity, Limberger was previously primarily responsible for the interface between vehicle fleets and the yard management software - the building blocks that also characterize Fernride's scalable and interoperable software platform. Previously, Rene Limberger held leading positions at various Silicon Valley companies in the automotive industry, where he played a key role in supporting them on their way to a future of autonomous driving. In particular, he was responsible for the areas of connectivity, mobility and cloud technology. Limberger also looks back on more than 20 years of experience in the California film industry, including 16 years as senior engineering manager at Sony Pictures Imagework, the film industry's special effects and visual effects company, and three more years as senior software engineer for Walt Disney Animation Studios. Experience that is enormously valuable for teleoperation, because 360° camera images enable the teleoperator to perceive the vehicle environment like a driver in the vehicle cabin on site, and thus control the vehicle safely from a distance.

Rene Limberger is now swapping Silicon Valley for the technology hub of Munich for his new role at Fernride. Commenting on this significant step, he says: "The decision to make the switch was easy for me. I'm returning to Germany to pick up where I left off in the US: The Fernride team is already making driverless transportation possible. And I'm looking forward here to bringing my skills and knowledge from my time in Silicon Valley and the motion & video space to make teleoperation better together and close the gap to an autonomous mobility future."

Jean-Michael Georg, co-founder and CTO of Fernride comments on the notable addition as follows: "With Rene Limberger, we have succeeded in a real personnel coup. He brings the Silicon Valley spirit, e.g. in terms of working methods, but also profound knowledge in autonomous driving to us in Germany. With him at the helm of our technology development, we will achieve our vision of making driverless transportation possible for everyone more quickly. We look forward to building the European tech champion in driverless logistics together with Rene."
